How QR codes work
A QR code is just text drawn as a grid of black and white squares. Your link is encoded into the pattern, framed by the three big corner squares that tell a phone camera where the code starts and which way is up. Built-in error correction stores the data redundantly — this tool uses level M, which keeps a code scannable even if up to 15% of it is smudged, scratched or covered. Because everything lives in the pattern itself, there is no database, no account and no expiry date: the PNG you download will work for as long as the destination it points to exists.
Tips for printing QR codes
Size and contrast decide whether a code scans on the first try. As a rule of thumb, print at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range scans (menus, business cards) and scale up roughly 1 cm per metre of scanning distance for posters and signage. Keep the white margin around the code — that quiet zone is part of the spec, and cropping it is the most common reason printed codes fail. Stick with dark-on-light: scanners read black on white most reliably, which is why this tool keeps it simple.
Two more habits worth keeping: download at 1024 px for anything going to a print shop so the modules stay razor sharp, and always scan a printed proof with two different phones before committing to a run. If the link behind the code might ever change — a menu URL, a campaign page, an event signup — consider a dynamic code instead, so a reprint is never needed.
