What a professional invoice needs
A valid invoice is more than a number on a page. At minimum it should carry a unique invoice number, the issue date, your name and address, your client's name and address, a clear description of what was delivered, the amount for each line, any tax applied, and the total due. Most jurisdictions also expect a due date, and if you're registered for VAT or GST, your registration number belongs on it too — drop it into the notes field. Get these basics right and your invoice will hold up with your client's accountant, your bookkeeper, and the tax office.
How to get paid faster
The single biggest lever is sending the invoice promptly — invoices sent the day work finishes get paid noticeably faster than ones sent weeks later. Beyond that: set an explicit due date instead of vague terms, keep payment terms short (“Net 14” beats “Net 30” for small projects), itemize your work so there's nothing to question, and put your payment details right on the invoice so paying you takes one step, not an email thread. A polite reminder a few days before the due date works better than a chase a week after it.
Everything in this tool happens locally: the live preview is the exact document that prints, and your draft is kept in your browser only, so a reload won't lose your work. When invoicing becomes a monthly ritual rather than a one-off, that's the moment a tool that remembers your clients and chases the paid/unpaid status for you starts paying for itself.
Frequently asked questions
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes — completely. No account, no trial, no watermark on the PDF, no surprise paywall on the download button. Free tools like this one are how we introduce people to the Hextrot studio.
Do you store my invoice data?
No. Everything you type stays in your browser — the draft is kept in your browser's local storage so it survives a reload, but it never touches our servers. Clear it any time with the Reset button.
Can I save invoices and track whether they got paid?
Not here — this tool is built for one-off invoices. If you invoice regularly, InvoiceForge saves every invoice, remembers your clients, and tracks paid and overdue status so nothing slips through.
Can I add my logo?
This free tool keeps the layout clean and logo-free. Custom logos and brand colors are part of InvoiceForge, where your branding is applied to every invoice automatically.
